President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his commitment to ensure free, fair, and transparent presidential and parliamenatry elections come December 7, 2024.
He assured Ghanaians that there would be no violence before, during, or after the process.
He was speaking at a ceremony when he joinedthe chiefs and people of Elmina at the Benya Lagoon for the rituals to officially commence this year’s Bakatue Festival.
The president said people with an interest in engaging in violence to destabilise this country would be punished ruthlessly.
The upcoming elections, he said, are an opportunity for us to elect the next president and parliamentarians, not an opportunity to go to war.
Ghana, a democratic nation, is seen as a beacon of hope for peaceful elections, and it is crucial to protect it, he noted.
He said, “As we prepare for the general elections, two things are important to me, and that is for us to organise free, fair, credible, and transparent elections. It is my wish that this election is organised peacefully without any recorded violence. This is an election, not a war. I know you understand this. It will not be under my administration that we witness a violent process.
We will hold the elections peacefully, and the winner will be declared and the loser will have to accept defeat. I also appeal to you to ensure that we have a peaceful process. Ghana is a beacon of hope and a shining example, and we have a duty to protect it.”
