Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the man who blew the whistle on the decision by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust to sell 60% shares in its hotels, has welcomed the news of the termination of the process.

He described the decision by SSNIT to terminate the transaction as a welcome one for Ghanaians, especially those who opposed the sale of the hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Agriculture.

The Board and Management of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) have terminated the process to divest 60% of their stake in four hotels.

The decision was taken after Rock City, the company that won the bid, withdrew its bid.

Organised Labour also declared to embark on a nationwide industrial strike on Monday, July 15, if the deal had gone through.

They directed their members to stay away from work if SSNIT fails to cancel the controversial hotel sale.

In a statement dated July 12, the Board of SSNIT assured pensioners, contributors and the public of its commitment to managing the affairs of the Trust prudently for the sustainability of the Pension Scheme.

“The Board and Management of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) wish to inform the public that the process to divest 60% of SSNIT’s stake in the hotels has been terminated.

“We wish to assure pensioners, contributors and the public of our commitment to managing the affairs of the Trust prudently for the sustainability of the Pension Scheme.”

Reacting to the news, Mr. Ablakwa described it as a victory Ghanaians.

He however demanded the termination of the appointments of the management and board members.

Below is the reaction from the MP

An awesome victory for all Ghanaians, and particularly for the might of Organised Labour.

Clearly, nothing is impossible when we put Ghana first and work together.

Having terminated the sale of our hotels after much belligerence and intransigence; they should all have their SSNIT appointments terminated.

Never ever take the Ghanaian people for granted.

The battle against State Capture continues, and we shall be victorious again!

I am eternally grateful to all Ghanaians for the tremendous and overwhelming solidarity.

For God and Country.
