The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have denied that they have vowed to seize control of the country if the forthcoming 2024 elections turn violent.
The denial follows assertions allegedly made by Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey, Executive Director of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG).
According to the statement issued by GFA, they have never held a press conference declaring an intention to stage a coup.
“GAF has no intention to stage a coup and will prevent and resist any individual, group, or organization seeking to unlawfully take over the power of government, either acting alone or in collaboration with any security agency,” the statement issued and signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, said.
The statement further cautioned civil society organisations and the media to refrain from using GAF’s name to heighten political tension.
