Kwabena Agaypong, the morning show host of Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, is certain that the Police, led by Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, will provide excellent security for the approaching general elections.
He believes that, despite his flaws as an IGP, Akuffo Dampare stands out from other IGPs with whom we have worked.
He added that we will be witnessing one of the most secure elections under the present IGP’s supervision.
Kwabena Agyapong stated that the IGP had performed his duties in an exemplary manner, and he was confident that his election tasks will be professional.
‘’When it comes to the upcoming elections and the security around them, I have no fears because the Ghana Police Service and the IGP have demonstrated readiness, and anyone who would misbehave would be dealt with in accordance with our laws,’’ he said.
With the current elections and the Ghana Police Service under the current IGP, we will witness something different. If you remember when the IGP went before the Committee that investigated his matter and was asked why he deployed the number of officers to Assin Central, his response was that during by-elections, the entire country treats it as a national election, and so it was important for the police to treat it as such. And after the elections, we did not witness any form of lawlessness, and that was commendable. That is why I have this strong optimism that we will witness something different from the police this election year,’’ he argued.
He also encouraged the Ghanaian public not to allow themselves to be used by any politician for their selfish interest since anyone who would engage in any form of lawlessness would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
