Security analyst Adib Saani has commended the National Security Taskforce, led by Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for their exemplary performance in maintaining security during the general elections.
Mr. Saani was particularly impressed that the violent acts recorded were not widespread, and commended the service personnel for their efforts.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio’s International Election Watch, Mr. Saani noted that, aside from the two deaths recorded in some areas, the electoral process was generally smooth.
He emphasized the need for an investigation into the shootings and punishment for those involved, stating that “generally, the incidents of violence were not widespread, and that is remarkable.”
Mr. Saani also underscored the need for an investigation into the eight deaths recorded during the 2020 general elections and prosecution of those involved.
He praised the police, led by the IGP, and other security services for conducting themselves professionally, stating that “they have done so well and deserve some commendation.” However, Mr. Saani noted that there are lessons to be learned from the elections to correct the lapses that occurred.
“The police, led by the IGP and other security services, have conducted themselves so well. They have done so well and deserve some commendations. However, we have several lessons to learn going forward so we can correct the lapses that occurred during the elections.”
