Bawumia is the NPP’s worst performing candidate, revealing party cracks – Donyina Mensah

December 15, 2024
mensah

Executive Director for the Centre for Public Opinion and Awareness (CenPOA), Michael Donyina Mensah has described Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the worst-performing presidential candidate in the history of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The analyst believes the abysmal performance of Dr. Bawumia shows there is something wrong internally with the elephant family.

He was reacting to a question as to whether the political career of Bawumia was over considering his abysmal performance in the elections.

He stated that the possibility of Bawumia returning as presidential candidate of the NPP will be premised on those who are not part of President Akufo-Addo’s dynasty.

He posited that if those individuals are able to regroup and unite their fronts, it will be difficult for Bawumia to be reelected as NPP’s presidential candidate.

“I must tell you that Dr. Bawumia is the worst-performing presidential candidate of the NPP. So for one to record such an embarrassing defeat, it tells you there is something wrong internally with the NPP. If they fail to put their house in order and reorganise themselves and decide to file him as a candidate, they will suffer another humiliating defeat and will not make any progress.”

He further advised the NPP to investigate and find out why they suffered this humiliating defeat.

“This will show them the next direction to take. They should investigate why they lost and conduct a root cause analysis to find out why they lost”.

He also suggested that the style of Akufo-Addo’s leadership and how he governed the country were a contributing factor to the party’s defeat.

“If they investigate and want to be candid, they will admit that the type of leadership by the President was a contributing factor to their defeat, but if they fail to admit this, then that is their own problem.”

He added that Akufo-Addo is a failed president and could not deliver on his promises.

He said for someone who campaigned on corruption and the economy, he had a duty to deliver on these issues, but under his leadership, Ghana’s economy is a mess with corruption reaching unprecedented levels.

When utilising this approach, he stated unequivocally that Akufo-Addo is a failed president. Even a promise to God to build a cathedral could not be fulfilled despite the use of state resources. Nothing convinces me that he did anything. He’s a failed president”.
