Director of Operations for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah has expressed optimism that President John Dramani Mahama’s government will restore the revoked license of GN Bank.
Divine Nkrumah stated that the bank, which was established by business mogul Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, was unfairly closed following the banking sector clean-up.
He noted that the process used in the banking sector cleanup was not done properly, especially relating to some of the banks.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said Mr. Mahama promised to restore the license of GN Bank.
‘’President Mahama promised to investigate the banking sector clean-up and restore the licenses of all the banks that were unfairly closed. We are looking forward to this. In the case of Nduom and some other banks, the reasons assigned for revoking their licenses did not make sense. A sensible government should not engage in such a reckless approach. If the reasons used in revoking the licenses of some of the banks were anything to go by, then banks like Data Bank should not exist because if you speak to customers of the bank, they are having challenges with redemption. Some have requested redemption for almost a year, and the bank has not been able to provide it.
He also slammed the previous government for the way it revoked the license of Heritage Bank, describing it as frivolous and senseless.
