The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has cautioned the Ghanaian public to disregard fraudulent social media posts falsely suggesting the sale of lost or forgotten baggage at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The caution was issued following a fake notice and website created informing the public of the sale of lost baggage at the airport for Ghc 32.
The company disclosed that the fake posts first emerged in October 2024, following which a disclaimer was issued to warn the public.
GACL maintained that these posts are entirely false and are intended to misinform and exploit the public for financial gain.
It added that all official announcements are disseminated solely through its verified social media channels.
The company further noted that it has never authorised any third party to communicate on its behalf.
“We have recently become aware of fresh attempts by these faceless individuals, once again using Facebook, to deceive the unsuspecting public into paying a specific amount of money. Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) would like to emphatically reiterate that the post is completely false, orchestrated to misinform and dupe the unsuspecting public, and should thus be disregarded,” GACL said in a release.
