The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has revealed that its preliminary investigation shows that the fire that destroyed the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools was done by an arsonist.
This was revealed by GNFS Communications Team member ADO1, Alex King Nartey.
He was speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM with host Kwabena Agyapong.
A fire outbreak in the early hours of Tuesday, December 17 at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools in Accra destroyed several ballot boxes.
The fire reportedly started in the school’s library, which had been temporarily converted into a storage area for ballot boxes from the Ablekuma North constituency in the December 7 general elections.
Commenting on the outbreak and investigations conducted so far. Mr. Alex Nartey revealed that per their preliminary investigation, it has turned out the fire was an arson.
He posited that the investigation is not concluded, so the GNFS can only put it out that the preliminary investigation has revealed that the school was set on fire by an arsonist.
Among many factors, arsonists can cause fires. Arson is something we consider when investigating fire outbreaks. In several cases, we discovered that fires were started by arsonists who had been arrested. There are outbreaks that appear to be caused by arson. For example, we suspect that the Kwashieman fire was arson. At most, I can say that our preliminary investigation points to arson or that our suspension proves that it was an arson. But until we finish the investigation and arrest any suspects, we can’t say definitively that it was an arson,” he added.
