Minister-designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur has announced that if approved, she will complete and operationalise the Fisheries College at Anomabo.
Appearing before Vetting Committee on January 22, 2025, said it was important to enhance the knowledge of fisherfolks by providing training and capacity-building opportunities for fishing communities.
According to her, the College was initiated by the late John Evans Atta Mills but has not been completed and so, she was pledging to complete and operationalise it.
She was optimistic it will help in enhancing the capacity of those in the fishing sector.
The Shama member of parliament also has expressed her desire to leave a lasting legacy in the fisheries sector by improving indigenous knowledge.
She assured that the government would provide small loans to help fishermen improve their livelihoods and promote sustainable fishing practices.
“That, it was under I Emelia Arthur that the long-awaited Fisheries College that we started in 2013 in Anomabo became operational. The Indigenous part is very important to me because of our fisher’s knowledge,” she said.
