Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato has promised to work on ensuring that the aspirations of Ghanaians will remain a forefront of his agenda.
The immediate past Majority Leader of the ninth parliament, who also served as Minority Leader in the eighth parliament, said Ghanaians gave the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a decisive victory and expect them to deliver.
In his final address as Majority Leader before the House on January 23, 2025, he expressed gratitude to his side for the support and trust they had in him to serve.
As minority leader, we collectively achieved a remarkable milestone in the shortest amount of time, the minister said.
He noted his side provided constructive government policies that safeguarded millions of cedis in government funds and championed groundbreaking legislations, including the most impactful private members bill in parliamentary history.
‘’These efforts shaped national policy and discourse, and it is no surprise that the people of Ghana entrusted us with an additional 50 parliamentary seats, transforming the NDC caucus from a minority of 137 to a commanding majority of 184 seats and counting.’’
Dr. Ato Forson says as he transitions from the role of leader of the House to the Minister of Finance, he will continue to rely on the support of all colleagues in the House for the good of our country.
‘’As a former leader of the House, I assure you, Right Honourable Speaker, neither you nor your members or the staff of Parliament will be far away from my thoughts. Mr. Speaker, the institution of parliament and its concerns will always remain a priority. In my capacity as Minister of Finance, I pledge to work tirelessly for the people of Ghana, ensuring that the needs and aspirations of the people remain at the forefront of our agenda. Let us unite in pursuit of these shared goals.
He also extended gratitude to the dedicated staff of the parliamentary service for their invaluable support to him and his colleagues in leadership, adding he was trusting them to extend that same support to the new leadership.
