Executive Director of Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation, Peter Bismark Kwofie has called on the New Democratic Congress (NDC) administration to exhibit courage in reducing wasteful spending.
The policy analyst says this would be necessary to save taxpayers contributions and enhance value for money.
He asserted that President John Dramani Mahama must remain committed to this because he returned to the Jubilee House largely because the public was angry about the Cedi depreciation and cost of fuel at the pump leading to higher prices.
In an opinion piece, Mr. Kwofie stated that the arrogance of the previous government and wasteful spending on the cathedral also led to the downfall of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He has therefore advised the new government to take a cue from the poor performance and misgovernance of the NPP and avoid repeating them.
“The president, his team, and his allies in parliament will need to make politically hard choices to keep the Cedi’s purchasing power from eroding further.”
He has proposed ways he believes the NDC government can use in achieving this.
“Fixing the state should be a priority one. Don’t give monetary technocrats and trade experts an excuse to take their eyes off the inflation ball. Focus on the fight against corruption, ensure to have the power on, and support the private sector to expand.
A simpler explanation to the failure of the Akufo-Addo’s Administration is the bureaucratic dysfunction. Nothing worked for the people of Ghana. The administration created more problems than solutions, that almost every solution is the problem in itself.
Never repeat the economic and power mistakes between the 2013 – 2016. Give Ghanaians hope. A prosperous society we ask for.”
