The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of bringing in thugs to intimidate them during the vetting process on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
During a press conference on Friday, January 31, 2025, the ranking member of the vetting committee stated that his side cannot be intimidated.
He claimed that the NDC brought in foot soldiers and violated security, so he requested that the parliamentary service provide security to protect them in order to prevent their members from storming the parliament building.
‘’These thugs were hired and brought in to come and intimidate the minority, but let me tell the NDC, we are few, but we are a mighty few. We are firm in our conviction, we are determined, and we shall never surrender to their intimidation.”
He lamented that there has been a breakdown in the security provided in parliament, allowing the NDC to bring in their thugs and cause havoc, warning that they will cooperate with the NDC if they show leadership and act diplomatically.
He stated that parliament is not an extension of the NDC headquarters where they can bring foot soldiers in to harass anyone.
“It would be an eyesore for the minority side to also get our members to provide us security”
To the nominees, he warned, “We would not tolerate nominees who come and are disrespectful, dishonest, and arrogant. Those who would come and denigrate the chief justice, former president of the land, and expect that they’ll have it easy with us, it would not happen. Those nominees that come and know their brief, with candour and treat us with respect, we accord them same.”
