Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo has disclosed that the old onion market, which is currently being encroached on again by scrap dealers and other traders, would be used for an industrial area.
The previous government relocated the onion market at Old Fadama in Accra to Adjen.
The land was to be used for an Agenda 111 hospital, but for years, the land was left unattended to, with some drug peddlers and other miscreants taking over the place.
Others used the place as a dump site and a place for open defecation.
Scrap dealers have started mounting wooden structures, claiming they were taking the land.
Commenting on this on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the Greater Accra Regional Minister revealed the place would be used for an industrial park.
‘’We are still on the Agbogbloshie issue, and by the grace of God, President John Dramani Mahama and the Chief of Staff, together with the Local Government Ministry and myself, have met with the traders, and soon they will be moved out of the place. We will put the place under lock to prevent people from encroaching on it. That place has been earmarked for an industrial area. We will have factories and other facilities there. So Ghanaians, be rest assured that soon, we will transform the place into an industrial area,” she told host Kwabena Agyapong.
