Retired Ghanaian footballer Mapa Inkum has opined that the delay in prosecution of the death of Nana Poorly, a Kumasi Asante Kotoko fan, is not healthy and can fuel a serious crisis for the football sector.
He said it would have been proper for those involved to be sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others who have the tendency to engage in hooliganism.
Speaking on Rainbow Sports, he said the most appropriate thing to do now is to sanction all individuals or clubs associated with the incident.
He posited that the lack of enforcement of our laws has influenced people to engage in hooliganism.
He said in other countries, these issues are taken seriously, but in Ghana, for the sake of politics, it has become extremely difficult to deal with these issues.
“The key suspect in the incident should have been arrested by now. Whoever is involved must be sanctioned. Even if Nsoatreman FC must be relegated or demoted from the league, it must be done to serve as a deterrent for other clubs. Doing this will improve the local league. This is a national crisis and very important. It is part of the punishment, and if done properly, it will make the league better.
However, politics has influenced our sports sector and is destroying our game. We have retrogressed in our sports sector because there are rules and regulations guiding the games. He added that it is also criminal for any supporter or group of supporters to attack a rival team.
He has therefore called on the Ghana Football Association to take immediate steps in assessing these challenges before they escalate into a national crisis.
