Ghanaians living in the United Kingdom are facing difficulties finding national jerseys to buy ahead of the Black Stars’ crucial upcoming match, following a widespread shortage across the country.
Reporting from the UK, Sir Richie, host of As It Is in Ghana, indicated that despite fans having the financial means and readiness to purchase the apparel, retail outlets have completely run out of stock.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Sir Richie highlighted that local support for the Ghanaian national team is massive.
According to him, even British football fans have expressed some anxiety over the fixture, noting they would not be surprised if the Black Stars secure a victory against England.
Discussing the atmosphere and expectations surrounding the match, Sir Richie noted: “The support for the Ghanaians is massive. The England team is formidable with world-class players, and so there are those who believe they will defeat Ghana. However, the Ghanaian side has also demonstrated that they are up to the task.”
When asked to confirm if the rumored scarcity of replicas was accurate, he affirmed:”Yes, there is a shortage of Ghanaian jerseys here. People have the money but cannot get the jerseys to buy.”
The Black Stars are set to face the Three Lions of England in their second group stage match, coming off the back of a 1–0 victory over Panama. Fans are highly optimistic, rooting for the team to either secure a win or hold England to a draw.
Football pundits and critics believe that if Ghana manages a draw against England, a subsequent victory over Croatia in their final group game will be enough to guarantee qualification to the next round.
