The Ghana School Feeding Programme has terminated contracts for all caterers nationwide, effective immediately, as part of a restructuring exercise.
Officials have also announced that new recruitment guidelines will be announced soon, and outstanding arrears for the second term will be paid.
But Madam Adizatu Amanua, spokesperson for the caterers contracted to cook for the schools, stated that the contract they had with the government was to end in August 2025 but on Friday, May 2, 2025.
She lamented the letter announcing the termination of the contract was unofficial and did not have the signature of the Minister in Charge of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
Madam Adizatu Amanua revealed they went to the ministry on May 5, 2025, to discuss this matter with her, but she left them, saying she was attending an emergency meeting.
She voiced concerns over the poor communication to them regarding the termination of their contracts, adding that they had made purchases of food items to go and cook for the children after school resumes.
“A termination letter was disseminated via our WhatsApp platform. However, the letter was unofficial, as it did not originate from the School Feeding Programme, nor did it bear the signature of the Minister in charge of Gender, Children, and Social Protection. An attempt was made to engage the minister in a meeting on Monday, but she left mid-discussion, citing an emergency meeting.
The letter, dated April 4, 2025, was shared on our platform on May 2, 2025, and lacked the signatures of the National Coordinator and the Director, despite their names being mentioned. Ideally, the termination letters should have been communicated through the respective assemblies.”
She revealed that they will storm the presidency to express their dissatisfaction regarding the lack of proper explanation provided to them.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, she said “We deserved to receive individual termination of contract letters with stated reasons, rather than the notification dropped on our WhatsApp platform. When we were contracted, each caterer was given a contract, and so if you want to terminate the contract, provide us with reasons.
They also owe us, and so if they want to terminate our contracts, they have a responsibility to pay us what they owe us. We had also gone to the market and purchased food items because school will resume soon. If we are not provided with a reasonable explanation, we will head to the presidency,” she declared.
