The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has made a passionate appeal to corporate bodies and Ghanaians abroad to support them by donating boats to support rescue efforts.
The Divisional Officer II and Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Desmond Ackah, said they remain committed to discharging their duties even in the face of inadequate logistics.
He stated that they require logistics such as rescue lines, rescue boats, and life jackets, among other things, to assist in the rescue of people in emergency situations.
He commended officers who deployed to provide rescue services in communities that flooded after the downpour on Sunday, May 19, 2025.
He explained that the service and personnel have been trained to provide such services and have admonished the public to always call the emergency lines so they will come to their rescue.
According to the Divisional Officer II and Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Desmond Ackah said for the first time, areas such as East Legon Hills, Frafraha, Madina and others flooded.
He revealed the officers had to rush to these areas to rescue people who were on their roofs because their homes were submerged.
He was, however, quick to add that no casualties were recorded despite the flooding situation across the affected areas.
‘’We were able to rescue about 25 people. There were no casualties, nor did we record any injuries,’’ he said on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.
”Because we are prepared to support and rescue people, do not hesitate to call our lines when you are trapped,” he emphasised.
He attributed the floods to changes in weather conditions and human behaviour, emphasising the importance of Ghanaians avoiding indiscriminate waste.
