The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho will be renamed the Professor John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences.
The minister explained that the renaming of the university is to honour the memory of the late President Mills for his instrumental role in the establishment of UHAS and his unwavering commitment to health and education in Ghana.
Haruna Iddrisu disclosed during the inauguration of the university’s new Governing Council at the ministry on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, with the support of his deputy Dr Clement Apaak.
“I am happy also to announce that the government has taken a decision to name the University of Health and Allied Sciences after the late J.E.A. Mills. The continued honour is to recognise his contribution as a statesman, former president, former tax administrator, and an academic of repute.

“Accordingly, I have placed before Parliament a bill for the renaming of the university; it will now be called Prof John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Science.”
Council Chair, Prof. Kodzo Gavua, welcomed the decision and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic excellence and nation-building.
JEA Mills UHAS remains a leading institution dedicated to training skilled health professionals for Ghana and beyond.
