Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana Madam Nyonkopa Daniels has taken a swipe at political leaders who make attempts to mobilise people to storm state security institutions when political personalities accused of wrongdoing are arrested.
According to her, it is reckless and useless for any politician to call on party members to storm state institutions under the guise of solidarising with those arrested.
She stated that both the two political parties are guilty of these issues, but using the recent arrest of Bernard Antwi Bosiako, aka Chairman Wontumi, as an example, she took the political leaders inciting their members against the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
“When you, the politicians, were enjoying your money and other benefits, did you invite party members to join you?” Why are you calling on party members right now? When you were in power, you didn’t invite party members to come and enjoy, but now you’re asking them to storm EOCO and do what? The same is true for the National Democratic Congress. They should be guided because what is happening today may happen tomorrow. When you are in power, you forget about your party members, but when you are in opposition and in trouble, you bus them and give them Ghc50 so they can go and storm these locations. This should no longer be the case,” she said on Frontline on Rainbow radio 87.5FM.
She has thus advised the youth of the various political parties to learn from these issues and not allow the political parties and some of their selfish political leaders to exploit them for their own selfish and parochial gains.
She went on to say, “Some politicians are greedy and do not support their members, especially when they are in power.” Some of these party members only need Ghc100 to start a small fruit business. They will move from office to office, but no one will notice, and when they are in opposition, they rely on these party members to support their ineffective political activities.”
She further admonished party supporters from both sides of the political divide to stop defending persons who have allegedly stolen from the state and allow the laws of the country to deal ruthlessly with them.
