The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted individual, having signed a directive classifying him as a high-profile person and fugitive from justice.
During a press briefing on Monday, June 2, 2025, he announced that the former Minister’s name had been reinstated on the list of wanted individuals.
He emphasised that the OSP would exhaust all avenues to ensure Mr. Ofori-Atta’s return to Ghana to face charges related to the alleged offenses.
The Special Prosecutor noted that the individual in question has failed to appear despite being granted multiple opportunities to do so.
He lamented the necessity of having the former Minister present physically, stating that his office had extended considerable indulgence, which he has not honored.
This development follows a request by Mr. Ofori-Atta for a virtual session, citing health reasons.
Previously, his legal team submitted documentation to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court, detailing his ongoing treatment abroad and claiming that travel was not possible.
However, the Special Prosecutor disclaimed knowledge of these documents and questioned the authenticity of the medical reports provided in support of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s condition.
The OSP added that he has reissued an arrest warrant, added him to INTERPOL Red Notice for international cooperation adding that “illness is not a shield from accountability-unless certified as incapacitating”.
