Berekum West MP applauds Speaker’s call for human capital investment through education

The Member of Parliament for Berekum West, Hon. Dickson Kyere-Duah, has welcomed and endorsed a recent statement by the Speaker of Parliament emphasizing the vital role of education and human resource development in Ghana’s national progress.

The Right Hon. Speaker, while addressing the House earlier today, underscored that a country’s development is fundamentally tied to the quality of its human capital, rather than the abundance of its natural resources. He encouraged Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff to take advantage of available opportunities to pursue postgraduate education, citing his own intention to do so as a demonstration of leadership through personal development.

In a comment, Hon. Kyere-Duah described the Speaker’s remarks as “timely and inspiring,” adding that the Speaker’s commitment to continuous education was a commendable example for all public officials.

“The Speaker’s personal pursuit of higher education sends a clear message—that learning is a lifelong responsibility, especially for those entrusted with the mandate to lead,” he said on the floor of Parliament.

He further stressed that the strength of Ghana’s institutions and economy will depend on how well the country invests in developing the knowledge and skills of its people, particularly in leadership roles.

The Berekum West legislator also called for structured support systems within Parliament to help MPs and staff balance their duties with academic growth, suggesting partnerships with universities to make flexible postgraduate programs accessible to legislators.

“It’s not just about personal advancement,” he added. “It’s about equipping ourselves to serve more effectively and make informed decisions for the good of the nation.”

Hon. Kyere-Duah has long advocated for youth development and education in his constituency, and his comments reinforce his belief that sustained national growth can only be achieved through deliberate investment in human capital.
