Suhum Member of Parliament Frank Asiedu Bekoe has accused President John Dramani Mahama of being responsible for the attacks on Mavis Hawa Koomson and other NPP figures during the Ablekuma North constituency rerun.
He asserted that the President’s silence on the matter days after the incident affirms his position that he is responsible for the lawlessness that occurred on July 11, 2025.
Speaking on ‘Frontline’ on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the lawmaker described what happened on July 11 as unprecedented and called for it to be investigated and all those responsible prosecuted.
When host Kwabena Agyapong drew his attention to the fact that Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and Interior Minister Mutaka Mubarak had condemned the incident, he insisted that the President’s silence is an affirmation that he was responsible for the attacks.
“What happened is unprecedented. Ghana is back in the dark days due to the lawlessness we witnessed on that day. Ghana’s democracy has retrogressed due to what happened, and sadly, President John Dramani Mahama has not condemned it, and it appears he supports it. I am forced to say that President Mahama was the one who instructed the thugs to go and beat Hawa Koomson. If he knows nothing about the issue, why has he refused to comment on it?
The Police looked on helplessly while these thugs were unleashing their attacks on the people who were assaulted. Why has the President refused to condemn the issue? His deafening silence is terrible, and he should hang his head in shame. President Mahama should be ashamed of himself. He sent his riff-raffs to go and attack people, and that is why he has refused to condemn it,” he added.
