Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Ntekuni, Member of Parliament for Pru West, has expressed deep concern over the lack of social amenities in his constituency, which is affecting the lives of his constituents.
With a population of over 79,000 people, Pru West does not have a district hospital, making it difficult for residents to access proper healthcare.
According to Hon. Ntekuni, the absence of a district hospital means that critically ill patients have to be rushed to far-off hospitals in Techiman, Yeji, and Atebubu, which can be a traumatic experience, especially for pregnant women who require immediate medical attention.
The MP emphasised that the situation is dire and requires urgent attention from the government.
Hon. Ntekuni, speaking in an interview with Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM Parliamentary Correspondent Bohyeba Afriyie, also highlighted the challenges faced by youths in his constituency, including lack of access to jobs, proper healthcare, and education. He noted that the constituency is dominated by youths who are struggling to make ends meet.
The MP has therefore called on President John Dramani Mahama to come to their aid and complete the Agenda 111 Hospital built by the previous NPP government. Hon. Nteku expressed confidence that the President, being a listening leader, will tackle the needs of his constituents swiftly and with urgency.
In addition to the healthcare challenges, Hon. Nteku also mentioned the lack of portable water as a major problem in the Pru West constituency. He emphasised that contaminated water is affecting the lives of the youths and needs to be tackled urgently.
However, Hon. Ntekuni thanked the President for introducing the Stress-Free Fee initiative for first-year students, which will benefit many youths in his constituency who struggle with financial constraints.
