Two suspects have been apprehended in Tamale’s industrial area in connection with an animal theft incident.
The individuals, identified as Yussif and Ganiu, both natives of Damongo, allegedly stole four goats and slaughtered them as part of their usual operation but failed to deliver the meat to their buyer, who is believed to be an accomplice.
Their arrest followed a tip-off that led vigilant community members to intercept and detain them.
After being tied up by the residents, the suspects revealed the involvement of a third party said to be the mastermind behind the theft.
They claimed the operation was commissioned by a well-known local chief, identified only as Kunkundana, who promised them a reward of 600 Ghana cedis.
However, the chief reportedly fled upon realising the situation was compromised.
Animal theft has been on the rise in recent times, with growing concern over the number of young people turning to such criminal acts rather than focusing on education or entrepreneurial pursuits.
Yussif and Ganiu, both believed to be in their late twenties, represent a generation whose youthful energy and potential could be channelled into more productive avenues but who have instead chosen theft as a livelihood. Unfortunately for them, their criminal run was cut short when the community took action and caught them in the act.
