The Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, has categorically stated that enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will be based on merit, not money.

He made the remarks in a Facebook post he shared on his official page.

The post comes after his 11-hour visit to 1 Garrison.

Speaking after an 11-hour working visit to military facilities under the 1 Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces, Dr. Omane Boamah assured that the recruitment process will be based strictly on merit and fairness.

“Let me repeat: recruitment and enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces is not for sale and will not be for sale under my Eagle Eyes watch,” he said.

The Minister, during his visit, went to the Eastern Naval Command, where he inspected key naval installations and observed how troops monitor Ghana’s marine ecosystem.

He also visited Michel Camp, where he witnessed soldiers neutralizing explosive devices, showcasing their professionalism and bravery.

Dr. Boamah was also at the Army Recruits Training School (ARTS), where he reviewed preparations to recruit and train 12,000 new personnel for both ARTS and the Ghana Military Academy.

He also visited military medical facilities, identified existing challenges, and assured troops of better healthcare under President Mahama’s Resetting Ghana agenda.

He stated after the visit that “To our troops, I say your service is deeply valued. We are working hard to protect your welfare and ensure your safety,” he added.

The Facebook post read “Exciting times ahead as we recruit and enlist 12,000 new personnel (2025-2028) starting latest by September this year.

Remember, joining the Ghana Armed Forces is based on merit, not money.”
