The Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, announced that the government has trained and deployed 450 personnel as water guards to protect the nation’s water bodies.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the Minister stated that a second batch of 530 graduates is set to complete their training on Friday, July 25, 2025. The ambitious goal is to train a total of 2,000 water guards by the end of 2025.
Minister Buah highlighted his ministry’s activities for the first half of the year, explaining that the Blue Water Guards employ a non-confrontational deployment strategy.
Their primary roles include acting as intelligence officers and engaging with local communities to raise awareness about environmental conservation and the detrimental effects of illegal mining.
“I think already it is very clear that we are seeing the very positive impact of the presence of these Blue Water Guards in our watering areas,” Minister Buah remarked.
He added that the second phase of the initiative will focus on “de-chemicalizing the water bodies to restore them to their pristine conditions.”
