The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man suspected of stealing a motorbike.
The suspect reportedly died as a result of a severe mob assault in Awutu Bawjiase, located in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
According to information gathered by Rainbowradioonline.com, the deceased and another accomplice allegedly hired an Okada rider from Esikaso in the Eastern Region under false pretenses, claiming they were traveling to Awutu Bawjiase.
However, they reportedly attacked the rider with a stick and fled with the motorbike after reaching the outskirts of town.
The rider sought help from another Okada rider, prompting a chase. Isaac Amoaquandoh, Assembly member for the Bawjiase-Mankesim Electoral Area, stated in a media interview that the suspects were seen speeding along the Bawjiase-Okwampa road.
One of the fleeing men was eventually apprehended by a group of Okada riders, while the other escaped. The situation escalated into violence, resulting in the young man being severely beaten and allegedly mutilated by the mob.
He was later rescued by officers from the Awutu Bawjiase District Police Command and rushed to the Awutu Bawjiase Polyclinic, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival due to the extent of his injuries.
