The Akwatia District Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the 3rd Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The alleged incident occurred on September 2, 2025, during the Akwatia by-election.
The politician was allegedly assaulted by Mr. Sofo Azorka, the Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A video of the incident went viral, showing the NDC officer verbally abusing the NPP official and physically striking him.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from the public, with many calling for the immediate arrest of Mr. Azirka.
In a statement, the police confirmed that an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
The statement added that a police medical form has been issued to the complainant to seek a medical examination, which will assist the ongoing investigation.
The case has since been transferred to the Eastern South Regional Police Command for further inquiry.
