Abronye DC has become a national nuisance that must be sanctioned by the NPP – Peace Watch Ghana

Peace Watch Ghana (PWG), a registered non-profit organization, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Kwame Baffour, also known as Abronye DC.

The organization stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Chairman was left unchecked by his party while he was directing unprovoked insults and attacks at politicians and public figures, both within his party and outside of it.

Madam Nyankopa Daniels, the spokesperson for PWG, believes the NPP, as a political entity, should have disciplined him when he began insulting prominent Ghanaians.

According to her, Abronye has attacked notable individuals, including Archbishop Duncan Williams, and recently, Ghana’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, without provocation.

Madam Daniels expressed concern about how Abronye has used “unprintable words” and resorted to name-calling against these individuals. She noted that he was allowed to continue his behavior without anyone having the courage to call him to order.

Speaking on the matter, she questioned why Abronye DC would claim his life was under threat after he had antagonized so many people.

She noted that the politics of insults directed at our leaders is unhealthy, stating, “We have every right to criticize our leaders if we believe they are underperforming, but resorting to denigrating words like ‘stupid,’ ‘mad,’ and other insults, as Abronye DC does, is unacceptable.”

“The NPP had a responsibility to discipline him when he started misbehaving,” she continued. “How can you tell the IGP that his shoes smell, or call him all sorts of names? You can criticize him if you think he is not performing, but you must not insult him. He should be cautious. He is becoming a public nuisance. I feel for him because if he continues to attack people unprovoked, he will be left alone to fight his own battles and no one will defend him, as those who would defend him are the very people he has insulted.”

“Peace Watch Ghana is asking the NPP to immediately withdraw and discipline Abronye DC,” she said. “His behavior should not be tolerated by the NPP. He has insulted pastors, politicians, businessmen, and even members of his own party. He is a negative example for our children. He is one of the people who have normalized it for our current generation of young people to insult their leaders because they believe there’s nothing wrong with it. This is not right, and we must put a stop to it.”

She concluded, “He is now seeking asylum, claiming his life is under threat. We also want to call on authorities to investigate his allegations. It is not right for anyone to threaten another person, so we want this matter to be investigated. However, the most important thing to stress is that insults do not develop a country; they destroy, divide, and undermine unity and stability.”
