The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has closed two unlicensed vision-testing facilities in Kumasi.
HeFRA stated that the two facilities were operating illegally while providing medical screening services to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
The health facilities were located near the DVLA office at Oforikrom. Investigators found them to be operating without valid licenses and unregistered under the Agency’s regulatory framework.
Christabel Ayriam, Public Relations Officer for HeFRA, informed journalists that the affected clinics had been conducting vision tests for driver’s license applicants without proper accreditation. She warned that this situation “poses serious risks to public health and road safety.”
“The indication I am getting is that this facility is not even registered at all,” she said. “It’s different if, let’s say, the facility was first licensed and its licence has expired. Then we know that maybe at the time they went to DVLA, they had a licence.
“But for a facility that is not registered at all, I am also wondering how they got the accreditation to actually do this for DVLA. So, like I said, we will engage DVLA.”
