President John Mahama has established an 11-member inter-ministerial committee to oversee Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Deputy Chief of Staff, Stan Xoese Dogbe, will chair the Committee and be assisted by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Other members of the committee include the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, the Minister for Youth Development, George Opare, the Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister, Yusif Jajah, the Deputy Finance Minister Ampem Nyarkoh, and the GFA Chairman Kurt Okraku.
The remaining members are Deputy National Security Coordinator, Elizabeth Yankah, former footballer Abedi Pele, and the Chief Director at the Sports Ministry, Wilhelmina Asamoah. An additional member from the private sector will be appointed to serve on the committee.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, November 26, the Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, stated that the decision to establish the committee was taken at a cabinet meeting.
He explained that a decision was made to set up a team of this nature to oversee the general planning of activities coordinating Ghana’s participation at the World Cup.
‘‘It is necessary to ensure proper coordination between the technical and all other individual components so that we do not work in silos.’’
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, tasked the newly inaugurated 2026 World Cup Ministerial Oversight Committee with coordinating travel arrangements and upholding Ghana’s national reputation.
“We task you to help coordinate the travel arrangements. Usually, we run into trouble when it comes to visas, and as you know, some people want to take advantage of the system and abscond, giving the country a bad name.”
“This is also an opportunity for us to sell some of our investment potential to the world. So, not necessarily looking at football. What are some of the things we can associate with our presence there? Let people know that our country is also an investment opportunity. Promotion of our tourism is one, and I believe that strongly if we sell ourselves, we can make Ghana proud,” he added
