The five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have signed a peace pact ahead of the party’s presidential election scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The ceremony was held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Thursday, January 22, 2026. All five aspirants appended their signatures to the document, signifying their commitment to maintaining peace before, during, and after the election.
The aspirants committed to accepting the outcome of the results and pledged to support whoever emerges as the winner.
The NPP presidential aspirants are former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyepong.
Speaking at the ceremony, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo called for unity. He told the aspirants and other members of the NPP that no individual is bigger than the party, nor can an individual’s ambitions override the NPP.
“The ideology of the NPP remains attractive to Ghanaians. The NPP is bigger than any individual… Unity is not an option; it is a strategic necessity to victory,” he said at the Peace Pact signing involving the five NPP presidential aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
He therefore admonished all aspirants to prioritize unity after the election. In his view, unity is not optional but rather a necessity for ensuring victory.
“The ideology of the NPP remains attractive to Ghanaians. The NPP is bigger than any individual… unity is not an option; it is a strategic necessity to victory.”
He added, “The ideology of the New Patriotic Party remains deeply attractive to the majority of Ghanaians.”
Joseph Osei Owusu, Chairman of the NPP Elections Committee, urged the five aspirants to pledge their commitment to accepting the outcome of the primary.
“We want the contestants to affirm that the process has so far been transparent, inclusive, and fair. We want them to commit to accepting the results, and we want them to commit to supporting whoever wins out of the five contestants,” he said.
“We believe this will allow or enable members of the party to build the sufficient confidence we need to be able to freely campaign and vote for whom they choose,” he said.
Justin Frimpong Kodua the General Secretary, on his part, also appealed to the aspirants to unite after the election, stressing that cohesion within the party will be critical to securing victory in the 2028 general elections.
