Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, popularly known as Wofa K, the current chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) UK branch, has revealed that he is personally intervening to prevent members of “The Base” from defecting.
The new political movement, reportedly established by prominent figures within the NPP, has sparked concerns regarding party unity.
Speaking in an interview on As It Is In Ghana on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM UK with host Sir Richie, Chairman Agyapong disclosed that he is actively engaging with the group’s leadership to ensure they do not abandon the party.
He explained that he recently met with several of these individuals to stress the importance of maintaining their “elephant tradition” and staying within the party’s fold.
During these discussions, he assured members of the movement that the NPP is currently undergoing a period of reorganisation. He noted that once new leaders are elected, the party will prioritise formal engagements with aggrieved members to find the best way forward and address their specific grievances.
“The base is in existence; they are mobilising and working. I know some of them, but I will not disclose their names. I had the opportunity to meet them while escorting a friend somewhere, and I advised them not to abandon the NPP. I have encouraged them to continue to support the NPP and have asked them to stay with the elephant. Soon, the NPP will finish with its reorganisation, and I am sure all those who have formed The Base will certainly be re-engaged and have all issues affecting them addressed.”
The chairman emphasised that the NPP must exhaust all efforts to ensure those who have aligned with the movement eventually return to the mainstream party.
While acknowledging that convincing them is currently a challenge due to the level of grievance among the members, he expressed confidence that the party would establish clear modalities to reintegrate them following the conclusion of the national internal elections.
