Renowned sports journalist Snr Owusu Bemper has called for urgent improvements in the Ghana Premier League to make it more competitive.
In an exclusive interview on Rainbow Radio, while assessing the current state of the league, Snr Owusu Bemper stressed that the narrow gap in quality among the competing clubs makes it difficult to clearly define the league as either truly attractive or competitive.
He emphasised that clubs need better financial backing and professional management to help players perform at their peak and retain top talents who often leave for greener pastures too early.
“We are competing very well at a very low level. How come our clubs are not able to compete well in Africa? If we want the GPL to compete with top leagues on the continent, then serious improvements must be made but can still improve.”
“Games could be competitive among very bad things because the standard is very low.” – he added
Snr Owusu Bemper urged the Ghana Football Association and key stakeholders to invest more in infrastructure, youth development, and branding of the league.
The stronger and more competitive league will ultimately benefit Ghanaian football.
