The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has taken enforcement action against 16 food service establishments in the Greater Accra Region, shutting them down on Wednesday, February 18, for operating without valid food hygiene permits.
The FDA noted that these establishments failed to comply with mandatory regulatory and sanitation standards.
This action follows a two-week public notice issued by the Authority, warning that after February 1, 2026, all food service providers without a valid Food Hygiene Permit would face closure.
The FDA announced the closures via a statement on its official Facebook page, emphasising that this measure is part of its continued efforts to protect public health.
The post read, “2 weeks after our notice to the public that, effective 1st February 2026, all food service establishments operating without a valid Food Hygiene Permit would be closed, we have taken action.
Today, 16 non-compliant food service establishments in the Greater Accra Region, including The Cheesecake House, Dolce Frizzante, Onda, and Alora Beach Resort, amongst others, were shut down for failing to meet regulatory requirements.
We remain committed to protecting public health and ensuring that all food service providers operate in strict compliance with good hygiene practices.”
