Lawrence Zugah, popularly known as “Columbia”, has alleged that the match between Hearts of Oak and Berekum Chelsea held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, was fixed.
Appearing on Rainbow Sports that same day, the sports enthusiast claimed that the draw between the two sides was a predetermined result. Even when the host, Kwabena Gyasi (aka “Fantastic KG”), cautioned him that such remarks could lead to legal or disciplinary trouble, Zugah remained unperturbed.
He insisted that he is fully prepared to provide evidence for his allegations if invited to do so by the authorities.
“The Hearts of Oak and Berekum Chelsea game, which ended in a draw, was a fixed match. If you ask me for evidence—is the evidence a human being for me to present it to you? I am the one making the claims. I am prepared to face anyone and provide my reasons for saying that. The two teams had [previously] played a game which ended in 3-2, so why should this game end in a draw?
You should have asked me for my source or where I got the information from. I must repeat that I am prepared to defend myself when I am called.”
Aside from the match-fixing allegations, Mr Zugah also took aim at the standard of coaching in the local league. He claimed that there are currently no “qualified or competent” coaches with the necessary skills to manage top-tier teams effectively.
While acknowledging that coaches are available, he argued that their level of experience and quality “is nothing to write home about.”
These comments were made in response to a discussion on whether Kumasi Asante Kotoko should hire a foreign coach following the recent resignation of Karim Zito.
