President John Dramani Mahama has announced that final preparations are underway for the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank, which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) promised in its manifesto.
He disclosed this in his address at the 69th Independence Day parade held at the forecourt of the Jubilee House on March 6, 2026.
President Mahama said the government was in the final stages of establishing the bank.
”This work has been under the leadership of our hard-working Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang,” he said, adding that although women entrepreneurs have been the backbone of Ghana’s economy, they have faced barriers to affordable financing.
The Women’s Development Bank, he stated, will provide accessible financing, mentorship, and business support that is tailored towards women’s enterprises.
He declared that when women succeed, families thrive and nations prosper.
He also commented on the 24-Hour Economy Bill, which he assented to recently.
The new law, he noted, will boost Ghana’s productivity while businesses are incentivised to run multiple shifts and operate around the clock, while services become more accessible with over 1,000 new jobs created across different sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, transportation, and security.
This, he added, will establish Ghana as a competitive industrial hub.
