In the Western North Region, a 23-year-old palm wine tapper known as “On God” has been arrested following a horrific arson attack in Bibiani Subrinkwanta that claimed the lives of three family members.

The suspect, identified as Prince, allegedly set fire to his girlfriend’s family home after they repeatedly warned him to stay away from the young woman.

Madam Paulina, a relative of the victims, recounted receiving a distress call in Obuasi informing her that Prince had arrived at the house searching for 19-year-old Benedicta Kudjo Felicia.

The family had long disapproved of the relationship, as Felicia was still a student at Queen Senior High School.

Despite their objections, the prince reportedly insisted on his love for her and issued a chilling ultimatum: if the family did not permit the marriage, he would burn the entire household to the ground.

That threat was tragically realised shortly thereafter.

The ensuing fire resulted in a devastating loss of life, beginning with Felicia, who was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The tragedy deepened as the family’s 61-year-old mother, Maame Mary Oppong, passed away at Anhwiaso Community Hospital.

A third victim, 22-year-old Dora Adoma Kudjo, was transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for specialist care but was also later confirmed dead.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Nyankonton Mu, Madam Paulina shared further grievances against the suspect, noting that she had personally warned him to leave her sister alone to focus on her education.

She revealed a previous incident where Prince allegedly took Felicia to his hometown, where she was involved in an accident; he reportedly abandoned her at the hospital, leaving the family to settle the medical bills.

Insisting that the suspect is of sound mind and fully responsible for his actions, the bereaved family and community leaders are now calling for the law to be applied to its fullest extent. The prince remains in police custody while investigations continue, as the community of Subrinkwanta demands justice for the three lives lost.
