EOCO declares Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple a Person of Interest in GH¢57.7 million fraud probe

March 30, 2026
EOCO-620x406

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has officially declared Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, the owner of Sesi-Edem Company Limited, a person of interest regarding an ongoing investigation into alleged fraud and money laundering involving tens of millions of cedis.

According to a release dated March 30, the case originated from a petition filed in November 2025 by J.G. Resources Ltd and Unigold Trading LLC.

The petition accuses Mr. Kwamigah-Atokple’s company of defrauding the firms under the pretext of supplying 50 kilograms of gold, valued at GH¢57.7 million.

EOCO is currently investigating the company for several alleged offenses, including defrauding by false pretenses and money laundering. These investigations fall under the jurisdiction of the Economic and Organised Crime Act, 2010 (Act 804), the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).

Despite being formally invited to assist with the investigation in November 2025, Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple failed to honor the invitation. This non-compliance led to his current status as a wanted individual.

“As at now Dr. Tanko Kwamigah Atokple, owner of SESI-EDEM Company Limited, is a person of interest and is wanted by the Economic and Organised Crime Office to assist in the investigation,” the statement said.

Preliminary findings by investigators suggested that the company’s bank accounts contained suspected proceeds of crime.

Consequently, the accounts were frozen to prevent the dissipation of funds, an action officially confirmed on January 30, 2026. Sesi-Edem Company Limited challenged this freeze in court in February, seeking a review to revoke the order.

In response, EOCO argued that the applicant failed to acknowledge legal provisions that allow authorities to preserve suspected proceeds of crime while investigations are active.

Furthermore, EOCO clarified that while reports have suggested otherwise, Sesi-Edem Company Limited has not yet been formally charged.

“Unless and until SESI-EDEM Company Limited is charged before a court of competent jurisdiction, this matter is still under investigation,” EOCO said.

EOCO has further disclosed that the directors of the company have consistently refused to comply with lawful requests to appear before investigators.

In light of this continued defiance, the Office served notice that it would utilise all available legal means to secure the arrest of the directors.
