The Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe Constituency, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has expressed disappointment and frustration over the government’s abandoning of the Weija Gbawe Municipal Children’s Hospital project.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a new emergency block at the Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital, Hon. Shaib revealed that he has engaged the minister of health on at least five occasions about the project, but to no avail.
He expressed concern that despite assurances from the head of infrastructure, the project has not been commissioned. Hon. Shaib lamented the politicisation of health projects, emphasising that patients do not care about politics when they need medical attention. “When people are dying, nobody asks them whether you are NPP or NDC,” he said.
The MP highlighted the poor state of the hospital’s emergency unit, describing it as “not the best”, and stressed the need for a more comprehensive facility. He explained that the new Emergency Block will feature 25-bed male and female wards, consulting rooms, a pharmacy, and a lab, among other amenities.
Hon. Shaib also criticised the government’s refusal to utilise the ultra-modern Weija Gbawe Children’s Hospital, constructed by the previous government, calling it a “shame”. He emphasised the need for the government to prioritise healthcare and ensure that facilities are properly maintained and utilised for the benefit of the people.
