GNFS urges public to memorise emergency lines for rainy season rescue operations

May 26, 2026

The Ghana National Service (GNFS) has urged the public to immediately contact its emergency lines if they become trapped during the rainy season.

ADO1 Alex King Nartey, a member of the Public Relations Department, emphasized that the GNFS responds to all emergencies, not just fire outbreaks.

Speaking to host Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he advised Ghanaians to keep emergency numbers memorized so they can call for help without delay.

He also raised serious concerns over the indiscriminate disposal of waste into running water during downpours.

While acknowledging existing structural challenges, he noted that human error heavily contributes to severe flooding, particularly during the rainy season.

Furthermore, ADO1 Nartey explained that flood-prone areas are highly susceptible to fire outbreaks. He warned individuals living in these zones to shut off their main power sources, as rising water increases the risk of electrocution.

“We encourage persons living in flood-prone areas to switch off their main meters during the downpour. It is also advisable that they disconnect all forms of illegal connections because they can easily trigger outbreaks and make it difficult for the GNFS to contain outbreaks.”

He reaffirmed that the GNFS remains committed to rescuing anyone caught in an emergency, reinforcing the critical need for citizens to reach out for assistance.

To support these rescue and containment efforts, he stressed that Ghanaians must maintain discipline and avoid actions that undermine emergency operations.

“The GNFS does not only contain fire. We provide rescue missions in all situations and so we advise the public to always call our emergency lines when trapped. The emergency lines are 192, 112, and 0302772446. We encourage everyone to have these numbers and call us when trapped.”
