Chuchuliga-Fumbisi road restart fulfilment of Mahama campaign promise – Dr Apaak

April 12, 2026

Deputy Education Minister Dr Clement Apaak says the resumed Chuchuliga–Fumbisi road project fulfils a campaign promise by President John Dramani Mahama.

Dr Apaak, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Builsa South, linked the revival of the stalled project directly to a commitment made by John Dramani Mahama during the election campaign.

“Work had started in 2016 but stalled. A promise was made by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama during the campaign that if given the opportunity to govern and if the people of Builsa South retained me as Member of Parliament, one of the things he would do was to resume work towards completing our portion of the road from Navrongo to Sandema,” he said.

Providing updates on ongoing coordination, Dr Apaak added, “Work has resumed. I have been in touch with the contractor. I am also in touch with the Roads Minister.”

Meanwhile, the Fix the Roads in Buluk Movement has applauded Dr Apaak and stakeholders for the project’s restart, describing it as a response to sustained public advocacy.

“We express our sincere appreciation to the government, the Honourable Member of Parliament, and all relevant stakeholders whose collective efforts have led to the contractor’s return to site,” the group said in a statement.

The movement highlighted the broader significance of the development.

“This is a clear demonstration of commitment to addressing the concerns of citizens and underscores the value of constructive civic engagement,” it noted.

It also welcomed the contractor’s phased execution plan, which will cover key stretches including Chuchuliga to Sandema, Gbedema to Fumbisi, and Fumbisi to Wiisi.

“We are particularly encouraged by the contractor’s innovative approach to executing the project in phases. This strategy is expected to enhance efficiency and accelerate progress,” the statement added.

Despite the optimism, the group called for strict quality control and adherence to timelines.

“We urge the contractor to ensure that the highest standards of quality are maintained while adhering strictly to the stipulated timelines,” it said.

The movement further encouraged Dr Apaak to prioritise additional feeder roads in the district to enhance mobility and boost economic activity across the Buluk area.
