Two armed robbers were shot dead by the Tema Regional Operations Team on Monday morning following a violent robbery at a mobile money outlet in Tema Community 5.
The suspects, who had attacked a female vendor and shot her in the leg, were intercepted by a police patrol team while attempting to flee the scene.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza, where the victim operates her business.
According to a statement issued by the Tema Regional Police Command, the suspects arrived on a motorbike under the guise of performing a cash-out transaction.
As the vendor reached for her phone to facilitate the request, the pillion passenger produced a pistol and demanded her bag of cash.
A struggle ensued when the victim resisted, leading the gunman to shoot her in the leg before seizing the money and speeding off.
A police patrol team, stationed nearby for security duties, responded immediately to a distress call.
The officers pursued the suspects toward Community 6, catching up with them near the Smart Hotel junction. Upon being cornered, the suspects opened fire on the police, who returned fire. Both men sustained gunshot wounds and fell from their black Royal motorbike.
The robbers were rushed to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.
Their remains have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for identification and autopsy.
During a subsequent search, officers recovered a 9mm Luger pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, three Android phones, and the victim’s Ghana Card. A stash of cash amounting to GH₵11,390.00 was also retrieved along with assorted SIM cards and a talisman.
The victim is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment for her injuries.
Meanwhile, the Tema Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security in the area and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
