Fatal armed robbery on Walewale-Nasia Road leaves one dead and 5 others injured

One person has been confirmed dead following a violent armed robbery on a passenger bus during the evening of Saturday, 2 May 2026.

The incident involved a VIP bus, registration number AS 4941-25, which was intercepted by gunmen along the Walewale-Nasia road while in transit from Zebilla to Tamale.

The assailants opened fire during the ambush, resulting in one fatality and leaving five other passengers with various injuries.

The wounded were quickly evacuated to a nearby hospital for emergency medical attention, while the body of the deceased has been moved to the mortuary.

Beyond the physical casualties, many of those on board have been left severely traumatised by the ordeal.

Police authorities have launched an investigation and are currently pursuing the suspects to bring them to justice.
