Three Arrested in Eastern Region as Police Seize 1,600 Cannabis Parcels and Foil GH$100,000 Bribe

The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects following an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the seizure of 1,600 parcels of suspected cannabis and the foiling of a GH$100,000 bribery attempt.

Acting on a tip-off regarding narcotics in Akosombo-Bonya on 10 May 2026, the Regional Police Intelligence Department tracked a Hyundai Rhino truck from Krobo Girls Senior High School to a secluded area near Atua Government Hospital.

Officers intervened as suspects transferred sacks from the Hyundai into a Howo Zonda tipper truck.

While the initial group fled into the bush, police successfully secured both vehicles and the illegal cargo.

Shortly after, 39-year-old Solomon Tettey, a welder from Atua, approached officers claiming ownership of the consignment and stating it was destined for Nigeria. In an attempt to compromise the investigation, Tettey offered a GH100,000 bribe.

Officers feigned interest to secure evidence, leading the suspect to transfer GH90,000 via mobile money and provide GH$10,000 in cash.

Following the transaction, backup from the Counter-Terrorism Unit and local police arrested Tettey.

Two accomplices, Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were later detained after appearing at the Regional Headquarters.

The suspects and seized evidence are now with the Regional Criminal Investigation Department for further processing as the Ghana Police Service reaffirms its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and maintaining professional integrity.
