The Ghana Army launched a coordinated cordon and search operation within the Bawku general area on Tuesday, targeting illegal contraband and potential security threats.

Conducted under the banner of Exercise Storm Shield 2026, the sweep aimed to neutralise local security risks and reassure residents of the military’s commitment to regional stability.

Following the exercise, a number of suspects were detained and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and prosecution, alongside several recovered items.

Speaking after the deployment, Colonel John Yaw Kwarteng, Command Operations Officer at the Northern Command headquarters, praised local residents for cooperating with the troops.

He urged the public to maintain this partnership by volunteering credible information regarding any individuals attempting to disrupt the peace.

Col Kwarteng assured the community that the military will maintain a sustained presence in the area to safeguard lives and property.
