Emergency crews responded to a road traffic incident on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, after a cargo truck overturned on a steep hill section in the Okere District.

The Akropong Municipal Fire Station received a distress call at 4:58 pm reporting that a MAN Diesel cargo truck had crashed at the Adukrom Water Works Junction.

A team of four firefighters was dispatched within seven minutes, arriving at the scene at 5:14 pm to find the heavy goods vehicle lying on its side by the roadside.

According to a briefing from the Eastern Region Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, the vehicle, which was transporting a large consignment of cartooned soft drinks from Ho to Kumasi, “backslid while climbing the Somanya–Adukrom hill” before flipping over.

The impact caused partial damage to the truck’s head.

Two people, including the driver, sustained injuries in the crash.

The regional PRO confirmed that the “two injured persons, including the driver, had already been rescued and sent to Adukrom Clinic for treatment” by bystanders before the emergency responders arrived.

Once on site, the fire crew focused on minimizing further risk to the public.

“Firefighters salvaged unaffected goods and washed the road surface to ensure safety for motorists,” working alongside personnel from the Adukrom Police Station who assisted with investigations and traffic management.

Recovery operations remained underway into the evening to clear the obstruction and restore the free flow of traffic.
