Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama arrived in Belarus today, Friday, June 5, for a four-day State Visit aimed at deepening diplomatic relations and expanding economic partnerships between the two nations.
The visit comes at the formal invitation of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko.
Upon landing in the capital city of Minsk, President Mahama’s first official engagement will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory Monument, a gesture honoring the Soviet soldiers and Belarusian partisans who fought in World War II.
The core of the diplomatic mission centers on high-level bilateral discussions between the two heads of state. Following a private meeting, Presidents Mahama and Lukashenko will lead an expanded session alongside ministers and senior officials to negotiate strategic partnerships.
The talks will focus primarily on agriculture, education, and commerce, culminating in the signing of at least four landmark bilateral agreements designed to institutionalize cooperation between Accra and Minsk.
To advance Ghana’s current food security and industrialization initiatives, President Mahama will also travel to the western city of Brest.
There, he is scheduled to tour a major agro-processing facility specializing in milk, cheese, and baby products to explore technical partnerships and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
While in the region, the President will pay tribute to historic resistance efforts at the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex and tour the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, a protected UNESCO World Heritage site, emphasizing a mutual commitment to environmental conservation.
President Mahama and his delegation are scheduled to conclude the tour and return to Accra on Tuesday, June 9.
