The Nkwanta District Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation following the brutal murder of a 36-year-old man, identified as Thomas Adon, at Keri within the Nkwanta South Municipality.
The incident came to light on Monday, June 8, 2026, after authorities received reports that a man had been shot and killed.
A Joint Police-Military Team immediately deployed to the scene, where they discovered the deceased lying in a pool of blood with multiple suspected gunshot wounds.

A subsequent sweep of the area by security operatives led to the recovery of critical evidence, including a piece of wood, fifteen spent cartridges, and five live BB and AA cartridges, all of which have been secured as exhibits.
The body of the deceased has since been conveyed to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Mortuary in Nkwanta for preservation and a post-mortem examination as detectives work to unmask the perpetrators.
In the wake of the tragedy, leadership from the Joint Security Team met with local Chiefs, Elders, and the bereaved family to offer condolences and de-escalate tensions.

According to a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer for Oti, the command is assuring the community of a “thorough, impartial, and professional investigation”.
With tensions high, security agencies are urging the public to exercise restraint, noting that residents must “remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and refrain from acts of reprisal that could undermine the peace and security in the area”.
The Nkwanta Joint Security Team maintains that it remains fully committed to ensuring the perpetrators are brought to justice, while encouraging anyone with credible information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
